If you struggle or you don't really know how to introduce the head harness to your dog, then you're in the right place.
First thing to remember is to keep the training session short and not overdo it, the goal is to build your dog confidence and make them feel comfortable with a new accessory.
Now, let's break down the process into 4 different steps.
Step 1
Take your harness and lead, lay them on the ground and let your dog have a sniff, let them have a look. Reward for being brave and getting close to a new item.
Step 2
Hold the harness in front of your dog, place your arm inside the head hole and let your dog take the treat.
*Bonus tip: adjustable harnesses like ours will allow you to make the head hole bigger for an easier wear (you will be able to adjust it when it's already on your dog neck).
Step 3
Take the treat and lure your dog close to the head hole, then reward.
This step can be repeated as many times as necessary, remember to take it slow and allow your dog to be comfortable.
Step 4
Once your dog is comfortable with putting their nose inside or close to the head hole you can start to slowly take the treat further away so that your dog will follow the treat through the head hole.
And you're DONE!
This process will get better with time but just remember, not every dog will be suitable with this type of harnesses and there are different methods for the introduction that you could use. If you are unsure which method would be best or more suitable for you and your fur friend, ask your trusted trainer.
